Second Chance Checking – Get a Fresh Start
Everyone deserves a path to financial success. Fresh Start Checking is designed for members who have faced past credit or checking challenges and are ready to rebuild a positive financial history.
How it Works
Rebuild with Confidence
After just one year of maintaining your account in good standing, you’re eligible to apply for a regular WFCU checking account.
Daily Access
Receive a debit card with a $150 daily limit for your essential purchases and withdrawals.
Digital Service
Stay connected with full access to WFCU’s Online Banking services.
Is This Account Right for You?
To qualify for Fresh Start Checking, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:
- Membership: You’ve been a member in good standing for at least 6 months.
- Direct Deposit: You have had a consistent direct deposit established for at least 90 days.
- Clear History: No past monetary losses with WFCU or reports of fraud with any credit agency.
Recent Activity: No more than two closures (or $500 in unpaid closures) at other institutions in the last 3 years.
Account Details
Please review these requirements to ensure your account stays active and fee-free.
Opening Fee: One-time $10 account opening fee
Minimum Balance: $50 minimum balance is required. To avoid a $25 fee, please ensure your balance does not fall below this amount at any time.
Deposits: No ATM deposits are allowed on this account.
Account Standing: Accounts that reach a negative status or are charged with a non-sufficient funds (NSF) item are subject to fees and immediate closure.
All other WFCU Checking fees apply as referenced in the Level Up Rewards fee schedule.
Credit and checking history are verified against eFunds / Chexsystems reports during the application process.

Ready to Open Your Account?
To make things as smooth as possible when you visit, please have the following items ready.
For Each Person on the Account:
Every owner or signer must provide their own:
- Valid photo ID
- Second form of identification (a social security card, birth certificate, vehicle registration, or insurance card)
- Social Security Number
- Proof of Address (if not on your ID, a current utility bill works perfectly)
For the Account (One-time only):
Only one set of opening funds is required per account:
- $5 deposit: To open your required savings account
- $10 membership fee: ($1 for members under 18)
Any Additional Funds you’d like to deposit into the account

Overdraft Services
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough available funds in your account to cover a transaction.
What is “Available Balance”? This is your total balance minus any holds on deposits or pending debit card authorizations.
Wheatland offers two optional services to help manage these situations.
If you choose not to use these services:
- Checks/ACH Payments: Items will be returned unpaid and are subject to a $40.00 NSF fee.
- Debit Card Purchases: The transaction may simply be declined.
Note: Whether an overdraft is paid is discretionary. We typically do not pay overdrafts if an account is not in good standing, lacks regular deposits, or has frequent overdrafts.
Overdraft Protection Privilege
This service automatically transfers funds from a linked savings account, Personal Line of Credit, or Flexline loan to cover a transaction.
How it works: You designate a backup account. If your checking balance is too low, we transfer exactly what is needed to cover the item.
Cost: A transfer fee of $0.00 – $5.00 (based on your account tier) is charged for each item covered.
Courtesy Pay Overdraft Program
Courtesy Pay is a discretionary service where we may approve items even if your checking and linked protection accounts have insufficient funds.
- What it covers: Checks, electronic payments (ACH), and both recurring and one-time debit card transactions.
- How it works: Your account will go negative to cover the item plus a $40.00 fee per item.
- Limits: We may authorize transactions up to your tier limit ($500, $250, or $100). Items exceeding this limit will be returned unpaid with a $40.00 NSF fee.
- Repayment: You must return your account to a positive balance within 15 days.
Failure to bring the account positive within 15 days will result in account closure, reporting to consumer agencies, and collection efforts.

Common Questions
The primary account holder can enroll via our website. Simply go to our Homepage and select the “Enroll” link in the Online Banking log in box. Follow the prompts to connect to your account and set your login credentials.
Joint account holders can obtain their own login credentials by calling our member services team at 717-898-7673 during business hours. You can also email our member services department at wfcumembers@wheatlandcu.com for more information.

- Login IDs must consist of 6 – 50 alpha numeric characters
- Security codes must be 12 – 16 characters and include: an uppercase and lowercase letter, numbers, and at least one of the following special characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & *
Please Note: You accept responsibility for periodically changing your logon ID and protecting the integrity of your credentials to prevent unauthorized transactions and account access. Granting access to your online account to any non-owner will make you financially liable for all losses or misuse of your account(s).
You must have an active WFCU checking account and be registered for online banking. Log in to your online banking account, select the “Bill Pay” option, and follow the prompts to set up a recurring payment.
Electronic copies of tax documents are available in the e-statements section of WFCU’s Virtual Branch. Not enrolled in e-statements? We’ll mail your tax forms to your address on file by January 31.
Every member who has an online banking account with our Virtual Branch can register for e-statements.
